A Private War with Rosamund Pike (Blu-ray)
Another movie afternoon/evening. Today with a 2018 film rated 6.7 stars on IMDb. Its duration is 111 minutes. There are English and German audio tracks with optional German subtitles. Rosamund Pike received 2 Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress for her performance. The truth is the most powerful weapon is its subtitle. Text from the back cover (translated from German): Marie Colvin (Rosamund Pike), the most determined war reporter of our time, risks her life on the battlefront to show the world the ugly face of war. Even an attempt on her life in Sri Lanka, which leaves her seriously injured, doesn't stop her from continuing to report on people's fates. Between a life of luxury and war, her final assignment takes her, along with renowned war photographer Paul Conroy (Jamie Dornan), to the most dangerous place in the world: the besieged Syrian city of Homs.
When I put in the Blu-ray they forced me to watch movie trailers in German first, which I did not like. In Terminal those were available in the menu, which seems more reasonable. In main menu there was Annie Lennox "Requiem For A Private War" song playing. It is beautiful and moving. I like it a lot. Props for that. Stanley Tucci has a small role in the movie. It carries a powerful depiction of war with strong graphic imagery. I'm surprised that its age classification is 12 to be honest. Marie Colvin was a conflicted, complicated individual. Pike did an amazing job portraying her the way she did. The ending is sad, but I enjoyed the experience. As far as additional content goes, there is a documentary included with the movie, called Under The Wire about the legacy and work of Marie Colvin. Overall I'm very satisfied with my purchase. For 7.87 euros I got 1h 51mins of the movie and 1h 35mins of its accompanying documentary.
There is a similar, subject-matter-wise, Polish movie called 53 Wojny (eng. 53 Wars) with Magdalena Poplawska and Michal Zurawski, which I saw in cinema in Bielawa seven years ago. I'd like to get it on Blu-ray one day if the price is right. Currently you can get it on DVD only and I don't collect DVDs anymore.
