Midnight Game Craze and Shopping

Image
It's late at night. After midnight. And I was playing Mario Odyssey on my Switch for a while and now I launched Bayonetta 3 (I like its voice acting and graphics, very nice for a Switch game). I switched it off after a while though because the multitude of enemies was too great for my taste. I also bought some new games tonight: L.A. Noire for Switch (as an interesting GTA alternative to check out) and Journey for PS4. I'm especially excited for the latter as it seems peaceful (serene even) and pretty. And above all looks like a simple game with no violence and plenty to explore. Pleasurable gameplay with engaging story and no bullshit. That's the way I like it. I can't wait to play it.

Horizon: Forbidden West Impressions

Image
I'm stunned. The game welcomes you to a Journey. And the graphics are so amazingly beautiful that I find it hard to depict in a way that would do them justice. It is so appealing. After 3 hours of it I felt I kinda overdosed and had to play something different. These are peak graphics for PS4 for sure. The post-apocalyptic world is truly beautiful and its inhabitants so colorful. And the story is also engaging. Carrie-Anne Moss from The Matrix is in the game! How awesome is this? The acting and motion capture are amazing. Top-tier huge explorable map. 11 out of 10 stars! I'll be coming back for more!

Late Night Musings

Image
There are many opinions to be had and formulated about the gaming industry. And about the state of physical media. The old school folks out there like it very much and boycott digital. I am on the fence to be honest with you. Most of my games I own a physical copy, but there are some digital downloads in my libraries on PS4 and Switch. Like a digital copy of Max Payne, which was a PS2 game, but I can play it on PS4 thanks to PlayStation e-shop. That's the only way I could have it and relive those memories (I completed the game in the early 00s). It is convenient for sure, but the game is not "really yours". Owning physical copy is far better in this regard. I can't stop buying games though, which may be a little problematic. Not as problematic as a downward spiral, on which my friend WojTech is currently. He lets dark thoughts near. You never do this. You fight them, overwrite CD-RW style, like back in 00s! Listening to Avril's Complicated.

Late Night Games Shopping

Image
I recently bought some new games for Switch and PS4. The main ones would be Horizon: Forbidden West from 2022 and Super Mario Odyssey (this one was rather expensive for my standards). The ones that I await less eagerly would be Skater XL and Metal Gear Solid, but hey they can surprise me in the positive way once I spend some time with them. I expect Skater XL to be better than Session: Skate Sim with its weird controls. The games will arrive tomorrow.

Death Stranding Sunday

Image
Death Stranding has the thing that I despise so much: long non-skippable cut scenes. Oh my gawd! Why!? This is obnoxious. Don't do this to me. And despite that fact I progressed. Just a little bit. Death Stranding is a game that came to me with a "Gra w polskiej wersji jezykowej" printed on the cover! and with Polish text on the back. This print on the front is so ugly! It is my only game like this and I don't like it. I got it for cheap though, so there's that. By the way: I obtained 40 out of 45 stars in 2K23's Jordan Challenge. I also won 5:0 in FC 24 on PS4 with my favorite club (there are no Slovak ones in this game, sadly) Viktoria Plzeň.

Saturday Gaming Log

Image
Today I spent some time with a newly purchased Endling - Extinction is forever on PS4. I got it on Thursday for less than 15 euros and had it delivered on Friday, just in time for some gaming weekend ahead. Visually it resembles Untitled Goose Game, which is more simplistic, but the similarities are there. So far I managed to explore the terrain near my den, save a trapped badger (I even received a trophy for that, which was unexpected), feed my cubs multiple times, and have one of them kidnapped by an evil poacher. There were four of them initially, but I'm minus two at the moment, as one of them starved to death (sorry cub!). The game is fun and pretty. I hope that I'll manage to find this stolen cub of mine and set it free eventually. In NBA 2K23 I scored a triple double with MJ in Jordan Challenge: 42 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds in a blowout 79:31 win with Seattle SuperSonics. The boards were hard to secure due to omnipresence of The Worm, who recorded 12. In anothe...

Freaky Friday with Games

Image
I spent this Friday evening with my friend WojTech playing NBA 2K25 (briefly) and FC 25 (several matches) on Switch in docked mode, on the Full HD TV. I figured out the way to pair Nintendo Switch Pro Controller with the console and it was not intuitive at all, but I managed to pull it off. It was very fun and competitive. Fierce rivalry mode was on. What we missed though was some Mortal Kombat game to properly beat each other up in the most brutal and bloody manner! I have such game on PS4 and it is moderately fun in single player mode, but I bet it would be more fun in multiplayer, playing against someone. Do you think I should get one for Switch? I looked into it and there are two Mortal Kombat games you can get on Switch. There's Mortal Kombat 11 and Mortal Kombat 1 with their respective Ultimate/Definitive editions and a whole bunch of DLC for those games. It will take some research to figure out which one is a better bang for your buck. I can see them both heavily discounted ...

Casual Weekend

Image
I scored 72 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a double-double MJ performance in the Jordan Challenge of 2K23 and ate some cookies in my bed. What the hell is Labubu?! I watched a lot of Eurobasket this weekend with WojTech.

State of the game collection

Image
Arrival of Bayonetta 3 Switch game marks the end of an era of my reckless spending on video games. I currently own 70 of them. 40 on PS4 and 30 on Nintendo Switch. Majority of them are physical releases acquired recently. I'm gonna hit the pause button on getting new games for now. I feel that I have all the stuff that I need. It's time to play it now because my backlog is huge at this point. In 1998 I was happily playing Super Mario and Wave Race on my Nintendo 64 console. Not a care in the world. Just fun. Time flies. There was 1998 FIFA World Cup going on in France. I was 10. And I went to Frankfurt, Germany. The streets were so different to Polish ones. It looked so clean and brand-new. All the shops with items inaccessible in Poland! Different money! The experience of a new world entirely, so exciting. Now the globalization took that away from us. The landscape changes following the global trends. Items that we can get in the shops are the same. Identity is somewhat lost i...

NBA 2K22 on Nintendo Switch

Image
Another 2K sports game that I picked up lately has arrived today. It was just a download code in the box with an empty game card slot, which was a bit disappointing. It meant another hefty download to my 512 GB SD card, which is over 70% full at this point with only 153 GB of space available. I already own this game on PS4 (it was the first one I bought after getting a console), but hey the price was right and it won't hurt to have an option to play this on a handheld too. After work I played a basketball game on PS4 in NBA 2K23. My Pelicans beat Cavs 50:23. Zion Williamson, on whom I was focusing offensively, recorded 29 points converting 14 of 26 attempts (he could not shoot from range efficiently), 3 rebounds (I expected a better result here to be honest), and 3 assists. He recorded 5 dunks, just like real-life Zion would most likely. Kira Lewis Jr. did not play: my decision. It's heartbreaking I know, but it is what it is. Sadly my copy of Ghost World by Daniel Clowes, whic...

NBA 2K23 on PS4

Image
In my penultimate post I mentioned a good NBA 2K game offer on Switch. I pulled the trigger on it later that day. What I did not mention though is that there was another one, on PS4. It was a new sealed copy of NBA 2K23 with babyface Devon Booker on the cover for only 12.91 euro plus shipping, which is an amazing deal. The download necessary after attempting to launch the game for the first time was huge and yes, it took ages to complete. First thing I did in the game was playing as 95-96 Bulls against 22-23 Cavs. I won with a hefty advantage, 52:33. I proceeded with the Jordan Challenge, where I played an NCAA game and won with a big margin. I also accomplished mission goals in terms of the game outcome, Jordan's points and rebounds. Another game awaiting me in this mode was 1984 Team USA vs. NBA All-Stars. I needed a break though. After my break I won again with Jordan scoring 46 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Hell lotta scoring with Jordan is required to complete this thing....

Session: Skate Sim on PS4

Image
Yesterday I woke up to the realization that I have no skating game on my PS4. On Switch I can play the arcade'y Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4, which I bought in Amsterdam. I decided to grab my digital copy of Session: Skate Sim on PlayStation Now for less than 10 euro, which is a decent price for that kind of game. The physical version would be way more expensive and I don't feel like getting it for that much. The game required a 17 GB download, which took a while to complete. But these controls... man I could not be bothered to spend hours mastering them. I did a kickflip by accident and switched to good old Max Payne, where I instantly got killed by enemy fire. I could not figure out the shooting button, how lame of me. That's what happens when you play too many games at once. I should stick to just a few titles, but my game backlog is huge and I jump back and forth between them. On a side note: I still go on basketball card hunting sessions on Ebay despite still comin...

FC 25 on Nintendo Switch

Image
Yesterday was such a lovely and chill day. I could not possibly pass on an opportunity to visit Twierdza Klodzko Mall to do some game hunting. That was exactly what I did! I snatched FC 25 game for 30.49 euro when the cheapest I could get on Amazon was 48.79. Other than that there was nothing to write home about. The selection was really small, as if the physical games market is shrinking rapidly, which is exactly what's happening, so no surprise there. Out of three shops that could possibly have games two had, but in the first one there were just a few titles for PS4/PS5 and nothing at all for Switch. Second one had a bit more, and among the games there was a relatively cheap soccer game. FC 25 welcomed me with a download prompt and a lengthy wait. It took over 90 minutes for the download to complete. Game's reviews that I watched on YouTube prior to pulling the trigger on the purchase were favorable, like that it is not just last year's game with updated rosters, which is...
